In The Colour of Time, Úna Ní Cheallaigh has produced a
volume of elegy touched with beauty. Whether delving into the
histories of victims and survivors of war and inhumanity, or
drawing on her own personal sense of loss, she has crafted
poems that touch the heart and soul, These are poems full of
erudition, empathy and lyric grace. At the core of this collection
she gives voice to the sculptor Camille Claudel, freeing her
from thirty years of incarceration: Ní Cheallaigh chíps away at
the marble block of silence and manages to liberate Claudel's
song of suffering. - James Harpur
Una Nií Cheallaigh combines he poet's acute awareness of the
visual with the historian's faithfulness to veracity and good
research. These are poems that vividly embody the past, distant
and near, recapturing lost lives and hidden stories, particularly
of those stoical and determined women who kept going despite
all that sought to stifle their art. A collection to be treasured. - Nessa O'Mahony
Úna Ní Cheallaigh's passionate lyrics find their source in
history, music, photographs, sculpture, memory. She has a
curious eye that brings to light devastating glimpses of human
suffering and enchantment, Her finely tuned ear and luminous
images restore and transform moments of experience with
mystery and insight, - Catherine Phil MacCarthy
